Check out Egg Harbor’s New Festival this weekend. It is snowing today, so hopefully there will be enough snow to snowmobile…

Celebrate the New Year in Door County!

Sunday, December 12th, 2010

I realize Christmas isn’t here yet, but now is the time to plan for a New Year’s weekend getaway in Door County. Mike’s Port Pub and Innlet Motel in Jacksonport has an awesome New Year’s eve package that includes a room, two Prime Rib dinners, drinks and party favors for $175 per couple. Nice. Then catch the Annual Polar Bear Plunge at the Jacksonport beach at noon. After that, skip back over to watch the Egg Harbor New Years Day Parade at 1:00. This year Egg Harbor has dubbed the weekend Frosty Fest which includes an Icy Fun Run to benefit the Y. I won’t be able to participate in the run, but watch for us in the parade. The girls and I will ride in the hot tub with a surprise guest (hopefully). We have a great theme this year, but it remains a secret until we put the float together in the morning at the church. Our parade wouldn’t be complete without our baton twirling Santa… Christine Tierney from Christine’s Casuals and Classics.

The Egg Harbor Lion’s Club sells brats downtown and most of the boutiques, restaurants and wineries will be open. The Wisconsin Badgers play in the Rose Bowl at 3:30 and all the bars will have the game on… WOW… what a great day! Coincidentally, Joe’s friend Betsy Byrne’s brother, Jake Byrne is a Badger… watch for number 82 who plays tight end. January 1st is also my niece Jen’s, 22nd birthday, so all of my family will be out in full force celebrating the occasion.

So, if you are sick of staying home or going to your boring neighbor’s for dinner on New Years Eve, come hang out with us in Door County. Trust me, it’s a blast.

Pumpkin Patch 2010!

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

Yes kids… it is almost here, Pumpkin Patch Festival, that is. Here is the schedule although it doesn’t mention that we will be frying a few brats downtown beginning tomorrow since the weather is so nice… that and the beer truck is already there. Check out the schedule…

We finished our scarecrow but need to put a few finishing touches on it. Tomorrow I will head downtown and post a few pre-Patch photos along with some scarecrow entries. Gotta love a festival… right?

“Our” Door County Tornado…

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

I know I write about this every year, but this, to me is always worth repeating. Twelve years ago today, a tornado came ashore and while Mark and I herded the Egg Harbor Lodge guests to our lower level, our four kids huddled in our basement at home. The tornado tore apart our house and the first floor literally collapsed into the basement on top of the kids. All the kids were fine… a true miracle. Willie Oakley, a Door County Sheriff’s deputy was on the scene almost immediately and pulled the kids out of the wreckage. At the time Josh was 16, Nellie 14, Emilie 10 and Joe 7. Even our dog Sandie who was in the basement as well, was fine.

This is the tornado minutes before it hit our house, taken by our neighbor Mel Pfister…

Here it is hitting the house… you can see the debris…

The Pfisters didn’t loose their house but most of their windows were blown out.

Our neighbor, Bill Kroll took videos of the destruction as well as taped the TV reports on the damage. Tonight, we will probably pop in the videos and then count our blessings… .

Door County Tidbits…

Friday, July 30th, 2010

It has been pretty busy in Door County the last few weeks. We did have time to check out a play at Peninsula Players last week. Isaiah Spetz who will be a sixth grader at Sevastopol School in Door County acted in the production of Over the Tavern. He did an amazing job and the play was hilarious. We saw Isaiah’s mom before the play and asked if we would be able to see Isaiah afterward… we did and took this pic… I had my camera on the wrong setting…

Isaiah’s mom Heather, is a Sevastopol High School English teacher (all our kids had her). Nellie and Emilie’s also had Heather as their softball coach and her son Riley plays on Mark’s Nor-Door Legion Baseball team. Speaking of which, they are at the state tournament this weekend. They lost last night but will play again today. If they win, they go on, if they lose, they go home. Good luck Chiefs.. we will be listening.

I saw Kimberly Sawyer, Miss Wisconsin at the Northern Door Chiefs Regional Baseball game and took a photo of her next to her Miss Wis mobile…

I took a few photos around Egg Harbor Lodge lately, and thought I would share them…

This is one of our guests, Ben at the Egg Harbor Lodge car wash washing his prized possession…

The Krafts and the Frankels going out for a joy ride…

And I can’t help but throw this one in, Baby Adi with her BFF, our dog Bailey… when they think I am not watching…

Giddyup!

The next few weeks are really busy but the last half of August it slows down so it is a great time to escape the humidity and head to Door County. The weather is usually perfect and the crowds dwindle… oh yeah, and baseball will finally be over and we can kayak again!
