Thursday, January 27th, 2011

The first weekend in February will be busy indeed. Fish Creek is hosting Winter Festival , formerly Fish Creek Winter Games. It should be tons of fun. Here is the schedule… (note the “Human Foosball Tournament!”.

And then on Sunday… the SUPER BOWL We were at Casey’s this past fall and there were a couple of Packer Players there… kicker, Mason Crosby and Daryn Colledge, guard.

I NEVER miss a photo opportunity…

Lucky for us, we are able to go to the home Packer games… here we are at a game in December…

Gotta love Cole’s “vintage” jersey…

My favorite player, the dreamy Clay Matthews…

Celebrate the New Year in Door County!

Sunday, December 12th, 2010

I realize Christmas isn’t here yet, but now is the time to plan for a New Year’s weekend getaway in Door County. Mike’s Port Pub and Innlet Motel in Jacksonport has an awesome New Year’s eve package that includes a room, two Prime Rib dinners, drinks and party favors for $175 per couple. Nice. Then catch the Annual Polar Bear Plunge at the Jacksonport beach at noon. After that, skip back over to watch the Egg Harbor New Years Day Parade at 1:00. This year Egg Harbor has dubbed the weekend Frosty Fest which includes an Icy Fun Run to benefit the Y. I won’t be able to participate in the run, but watch for us in the parade. The girls and I will ride in the hot tub with a surprise guest (hopefully). We have a great theme this year, but it remains a secret until we put the float together in the morning at the church. Our parade wouldn’t be complete without our baton twirling Santa… Christine Tierney from Christine’s Casuals and Classics.

The Egg Harbor Lion’s Club sells brats downtown and most of the boutiques, restaurants and wineries will be open. The Wisconsin Badgers play in the Rose Bowl at 3:30 and all the bars will have the game on… WOW… what a great day! Coincidentally, Joe’s friend Betsy Byrne’s brother, Jake Byrne is a Badger… watch for number 82 who plays tight end. January 1st is also my niece Jen’s, 22nd birthday, so all of my family will be out in full force celebrating the occasion.

So, if you are sick of staying home or going to your boring neighbor’s for dinner on New Years Eve, come hang out with us in Door County. Trust me, it’s a blast.

PC Junction

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

We had Adi today and Em was off and Joe was home so we decided to go to PC Junction for lunch. PC stands for Peninsula Center which is where the restaurant is located… the center of the Door County peninsula on County A between Egg Harbor and Baileys Harbor. I had never been to the restaurant, but years ago it was Waschichek’s General store and Mrs. Washichek-Zettel was my niece and nephew’s grandmother. Anyway, it has been a restaurant for a number of years with it’s schtick being the restaurant looks like a train station complete with a train that goes around on a track to deliver the food. It is a super busy place in the summer with tons of families with young children waiting their turn to have a train bring out their food. That in itself was a deal breaker for me… tons of kids, a bell clanking everytime the train brought the food and a conductor yelling out each stop. Nooo way. Not being a kid hater or anything but as a non-smoker I used to prefer to sit in the smoking section of a restaurant as not to be annoyed by kids. Jeesh… maybe I am a kid hater. Anyway, Em’s friend Cole was the conductor/bartender today. Yes, there is a bar in the restaurant, it is probably the only way the parents stay sane.

We got there at noon and there wasn’t a kid in sight. Granted the season is practically over but still. What we did see were older people…

and younger people…

Who knew?

So we ordered our food from Cole the conductor and waited for the train…

Cole had the train go around and around… just for Adi. She absolutely loved it.

Here comes the food…

So here is my confession… I LOVED it!!! The food was fantastic and it was really fun. No wonder it’s so busy in the summer. My brother-in-law bribes his two kids with it… “If you are good in church, we will go to PC” he tells them… and guess what? They are always angels in church. They love PC too. I don’t think I will head out to PC Junction in the busy summer months, but this won’t be Adi’s last time that’s for sure. Next time we will go when Adi’s big brother Jaden can come. I have to say PC Junction is pretty cool.

Just stuff…

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

Well, I made it through three, yes three festivals… Cranberry Fest in Eagle River (crazy), Pumpkin Patch in Egg Harbor (busy) and Fall (down) Fest in Sister Bay (I plead the 5th). I am about festivaled (not a real word) out.

Last week on our way home from Green Bay, we stopped at Rock Falls, a restaurant just south of Dykesville on Hwy. 57.

We LOVE Rock Falls. The bartender/owner, Jon Robinson is really personable and easy on the eyes which is a bonus…

They have a typical but yummy supper club type menu (steaks, fish, seafood, pasta) and a pretty cheap lobster and steak special which we ordered because we love it. We don’t get to Rock Falls very often so when we do get there we try and get the surf and turf special… luckily we landed there on a Tuesday. Actually, anything we have ordered there has been super good.

We ran into Elaine Macdonald of Bayside Tavern fame… she was dining with her friend Barbara Lund…

Apparently, we aren’t the only Door County residents who like to stop at Rock Falls on their way home from the big city.

If you want to catch dinner on the way to DC check out Rock Falls, you will want to make it an annual event.

Scarecrow Contest

Saturday, October 9th, 2010

I took a few photos of some of the scarecrows around the village yesterday. I didn’t get up to the Landmark… usually Jeanne does an awesome job with their display. We on the other hand are able to get up one lowly scarecrow. Ours is pretty traditional…

So is the one Jerry is putting up at Trio…

Others are much more elaborate like this one from the Patricia Shoppe with its hand painted gourds…

Alice in Pumpkin Patch Wonderland

Bruce and Gail from the Lull-Abi put a nice display together as well. Their scarecrows from last year were er, um… well, pumpkins were used as anatomy and not in a good way.

I am heading downtown now to help with the brats… I will try and get out to get some more pictures of the festivities. I may have to wait until tomorrow however, I imagine it is going to be jammed today.
