Egg Harbor… the “Cool” place to be!

Wednesday, January 19th, 2011
From DoorCountyStyle.com

In a country where bigger is usually considered better, Budget Travel Magazine went searching for the “Coolest Small Towns in America.”

The magazine’s editors asked readers to help them in the search and defined the following criteria in their quest:

“First, your town must have a population under 10,000 – we’re talking small towns, not big cities. It’s also got to be on the upswing, a place that’s beginning to draw attention – and new residents – because of the quality of life, the arts and restaurant scene or proximity to nature. And cool doesn’t mean quaint. We want towns with an edge, so think avant-garde galleries, not country stores.”

A total of 147 towns were nominated and from them, Budget Travel editors selected 21 American towns that they felt stood out from the crowd. Online voting was utilized to determine the winners, with more than 400,000 votes cast over a period of several months of voting.

The top ten towns in the Budget Travel poll released on May 24, 2010 are:

  1. Ely, MN
  2. Cloverdale, CA
  3. Brevard, NC
  4. Saugatuck, MI
  5. Kennett Square, PA
  6. Bandon, OR
  7. Cuero, TX
  8. Nyack, NY
  9. Medicine Park, OK
  10. Egg Harbor, WI

An article and photos of the winning towns appeared in the September, 2010 issue of Budget Travel Magazine.

Check out Egg Harbor’s New Festival this weekend. It is snowing today, so hopefully there will be enough snow to snowmobile…

Random end of the year Door County photos…

We had a crazy, busy holiday season…

We attended a benefit for local Door County charities put together by Miss Wisconsin at the Door Community Auditorium. John and Jackie Sawyer (Kimberly’s parents) had a cocktail party afterwards at Husby’s. Here we are with Kimberly at Husby’s

This is Kim’s mom Jackie and her sister Katie. If Kimberly becomes Miss America, Katie will take the reigns as Miss Wisconsin since she was first runner up at the Miss Wisconsin pageant.

We celebrated New Year’s Eve with live Maine lobster… at home. Going out on New Year’s Eve is for amateurs.

We went hot tubbing in the annual Egg Harbor New Year’s Day Parade

The hot tub girls ended up on the cover of the the Door County Now paper (formerly the Resorter Reporter).

Wonderful husband surpised me with a limo New Year’s Day to drag our sorry keesters all over Door County…

The limo was for my birthday which is actually January 3rd, but here is my real present…

Happy Birthday to me, Happy birthday to me, Happy birthday dear Sarah, Happy birthday to me!!!

Truthfully, if my dreams come true, Kimberly will win Miss Wisconsin and the Packers will kick Atlanta’s a**!!! GO PACK!!!

Funny fact, Pam who used to work at Main Street Market is the woman at the end of the video in Packer gear… who knew!

Happy New Year to all… watch for my VEGAS BLOGS!!!

Celebrate the New Year in Door County!

Sunday, December 12th, 2010

I realize Christmas isn’t here yet, but now is the time to plan for a New Year’s weekend getaway in Door County. Mike’s Port Pub and Innlet Motel in Jacksonport has an awesome New Year’s eve package that includes a room, two Prime Rib dinners, drinks and party favors for $175 per couple. Nice. Then catch the Annual Polar Bear Plunge at the Jacksonport beach at noon. After that, skip back over to watch the Egg Harbor New Years Day Parade at 1:00. This year Egg Harbor has dubbed the weekend Frosty Fest which includes an Icy Fun Run to benefit the Y. I won’t be able to participate in the run, but watch for us in the parade. The girls and I will ride in the hot tub with a surprise guest (hopefully). We have a great theme this year, but it remains a secret until we put the float together in the morning at the church. Our parade wouldn’t be complete without our baton twirling Santa… Christine Tierney from Christine’s Casuals and Classics.

The Egg Harbor Lion’s Club sells brats downtown and most of the boutiques, restaurants and wineries will be open. The Wisconsin Badgers play in the Rose Bowl at 3:30 and all the bars will have the game on… WOW… what a great day! Coincidentally, Joe’s friend Betsy Byrne’s brother, Jake Byrne is a Badger… watch for number 82 who plays tight end. January 1st is also my niece Jen’s, 22nd birthday, so all of my family will be out in full force celebrating the occasion.

So, if you are sick of staying home or going to your boring neighbor’s for dinner on New Years Eve, come hang out with us in Door County. Trust me, it’s a blast.
