This special art crawl features women artists in Egg Harbor.  On Friday, June 21 from 4-7pm the event will feature three galleries:  Angela Lensch Gallery, Cappaert Contemporary Gallery and Off the Wheel Pottery.

Cappaert Contemporary Gallery is Ginnie Cappaert’s working studio/gallery.  Ginnie is known for her abstract landscape paintings in oil and cold wax.  Ginnie’s gallery represents 40 other artists working in painting, glass, clay, sculpture, and jewelry.  Cathy Grier will provide live local blues music at the gallery during the event.

Angela Lensch Gallery focuses on 3D work and features a mix of local and regional artists.  From handwoven gold and silver jewelry made by Angela as well as outdoor sculptures in copper and brass.  Angela’s fellow resident artist Tony Bessen will be joining her.  Tony, along with musicians Bobbie Blackburn and Eli Smith will provide live music.  Artist Dawn Patel of Brilliant Stranger Clothing and Fine Art will also be onsite with a pop-up exhibit.

Renee Schwaller who owns Off The Wheel Pottery located in a historic timber-framed barn and granary will also be part of the event.  She will feature her handcrafter ceramics along with paintings, glass and pottery by 30 regional and national artists.  Paintings by artist Jeanne Kuhns will be part of the event, too.  During the art night you can enjoy refreshments and a painting demonstration by local artist Tim Nybert.

If you are planning a trip to Door County this year, please take a look at some of the new restaurants you might want to sample.  In some cases the names are familiar, but the menu may have changed due to new ownership.  A few restaurants are now back, perhaps in a new location.

EGG HARBOR

Villagio’s Italian Steakhouse located at 7778 Hwy. 42 - Villagio’s has moved from Juddville and reopened in the former Trio Restaurant.  It’s Italian, and now steaks have been added to the menu.

EPHRAIM

Anatolia Cuisine located at 9922 Water Street Unit 7 - The owner, originally from Turkey, first came to Door County as a J-1 student in 2017.  His restaurant features Turkish food, such as kebabs, falafel wraps and kofte.

BAILEYS HARBOR

Gatsby’s Grill located at 7680 Hwy. 57 (at Maxwelton Braes Lodge) -  New owners brought back food at the golf course.  Featuring lobster bisque, shrimp and chicken pasta, and a favorite a meatball sandwich.

Inland Door County located at 8085 Hwy. 42 - It’s not quite there yet, but opening soon featuring pizza.

Roost + Banter located at 8093 Hwy. 57 - Classic espresso drinks with seasonal specials.  Breakfast, lunch and baked goods, all made in-house.

The Augusta Club - 8048 Hwy. 57 (formally Florian II) - It’s now an event center for people to celebrate weddings, reunions and you name it.

ELLISON BAY

Cuesta Coffee located at 12625 Bay Shore Drive (Hwy. 42) - it has an Ellison Bay address but is really in Gills Rock.  Eat and drink and enjoy this fun coffee house.

La Piazza located at 12029 Hwy. 42 - this new restaurant is being added to the Blue Bear and Della Porta site, this one is located behind the building, featuring a different menu from the other two restaurants with a wine list.

Osteria Tre Tassi located at 11976 Mink River Road (formally the Wickman House) - expect fresh-from-the-garden produce and herbs to compliment the hand-made pastas with an impressive wine list.

FISH CREEK

Backroads Deli located at the Top of the Hill Shops, 9331 Spring Road - This new deli offers sandwiches, paninis, fresh salads, charcuterie boards, and more.

SISTER BAY

Base Camp Coffee Bar (behind Ecology Sports) at 10740 N. Bay Shore Drive (Hwy. 42) - This popular coffee shop closed in 2020.  Now, back and in a new location.

KOKOS Ice Cream located at 2363 Mill Road - serving plant-based ice cream and specialty coffee drinks.

STURGEON BAY

Elmo’s Wood Fired Pizza located at 143 N. 4th Avenue - quality ingredients and customizable pizzas wood-fired.

LoLo’s Food Truck located around the city - gourmet deli sandwiches, salads and charcuterie from family recipes.

Gloria’s Authentic Mexican Restaurant located at 23 W. Oak Street - featuring wonder Mexican food.  The quesadilla are wonderful.

The Door County Boardwalk located at 1023 Egg Harbor Road - An entertainment venue home to Virlee Gunworks Shooting Center, Door County Sandbox, and ax throwing, golf, bar and restaurant.

Sunrise Food and Drinks located at 1463 Egg Harbor Road - featuring American and Mexican breakfast and lunch items, with a small liquor menu.

Taqueria Neri Food Truck located at 214 Michigan Avenue - featuring homemade, authentic Mexican food.

GILLS ROCK

Shoreline Restaurant located at 12747 Hwy. 42 - Name is still the same, but with new owners and a new menu.

This weekend is a good weekend to save money in Door County.  You do not need a stamp to get into any of the State parks or a fishing license to fish which makes a visit well worth it!

 

It’s your chance to take advantage of our beautiful State Parks, and to experience fishing on the water or off the water.

If you are looking for lodging, we still have rooms available!  If you can’t make it this weekend, Door County is worth visiting anytime throughout the year.

The 5K race starts at 8am on September 21 in Baileys Harbor.  It’s a race for your entire family.  You can push a stroller, bring your dogs, run or walk for all the fun!  This 5k run celebrates Door County’s iconic character with a run through the back roads of Baileys harbor.   

On-site registration will be available Saturday morning at 7 am, and runners will also be able to register at Door County Brewing on Friday night, September 20, from 6 – 9 pm.

If you have never been to Door County, this might be the time to visit the “Cape Code” of the Midwest.  Door County features coastal towns along Lake Michigan and Green Bay.  Door County has 300 miles of shoreline, and 11 lighthouses.  It is one of the top 5 cherry-producing areas in the county, and has the largest lavender farm in the Midwest.

Door County is exactly the kind of place you should visit this summer or fall.  It’s a beautiful place to take in.  From sea caves and sand dunes, to a great place for biking, it’s just the best!

One of my favorite places is Cave Point.  It’s on Lake Michigan.  The wind and waves from Lake Michigan have worn away limestone cliffs to create underwater caves.  On a windy day, the spray can shoot up to 20 feet in the area.  It’s located in a county park, so it’s free!  You will see daring people jump off the cliffs into the water which I would never do.  It is fun to watch!

We also have to special beaches.  Schoolhouse Beach on Washington Island and Pebble Beach in Sister Bay.  These are not your typical beaches.  These are two out of five of its kind in the world!  Both beaches are covered with millions of smooth limestone rocks.  No sand on the beach, just rocks.  The water is clear and the water colors are beautiful.  Don’t take one of these special rocks, there is a $300.00 fine for each rock.  That goes to show you have special these beaches are in Door County!

No matter what you do, you will want to spend more  time the next time you visit.  If you are looking for lodging, consider the Egg Harbor Lodge.  It overlooks Green Bay with the best sunsets in Door County.
